... the second issue was launched under a new name: „The Village Cry“. This name was derived from Marshall McLuhan‘s book „Global Village“ and its vision of future communication techniques. We believed that – independent on their origin and location – cultural activities will be perceived anywhere in the world. The paper was published from Basel, a small town somewhere in the North of Switzerland. We had something to say, but we needed to „Cry“ in order to get heard...

„The Village Cry“ No.7 was the final issue of this unique magazine. By spring 1978 its financial backbone was broken. Rolf Paltzer and Beat Presser had hoped to continue, but finally they decided to close down the publication

ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY

Endless and fruitless discussions over the question: „Is Photography Art?“ have not helped to improve the situation. For reproduction and as a document: Yes! But as an Art? The Village Cry had no doubts: Photography was an Art, ever since it was invented in the early 19th century!

But the focus of this issue No.7 was rather directed torwards the question how other Arts had inspired photography and photographers. Whether it was Abstract Art, Bauhaus, Surrealisme, Expressionism, Dadaisme, Constructivism or other forms of Art. And once again Photographers, Artists, Writers and Advertisers had helped with their expertise and enthusiasm to put this issue together.
