-is a double live album(with Mark II),which was released in Dec.72 Europe/May 73 in the US.

At first it was only released in Japan(*Live in Japan),but as Deep Purple was enjoying worldwide success with the album Machine Head at the time,the record company decided to release it globally.

The album is characterized by instrumental frenzy and long improvisations of the pieces by Machine Head.

Made in Japan is considered by many fans as the band's best album and a milestone in the history of hard rock and heavy metal.

The guitar riff to Smoke on the Water contained on Made in Japan is probably one of the most played in rock.
