Dire Straits – Dire Straits

- is the self-titled debut album by British rock band Dire Straits.

The album was first released in 1978 and marked the start of a remarkable career for the band.

"Dire Straits" was released in the UK on October 7, 1978.

The band Dire Straits at that time consisted of Mark Knopfler (vocals, guitar), David Knopfler (guitar, vocals), John Illsley (bass) and Pick Withers (drums).

The album was characterized by its unique musical style that combined elements of rock, blues and country. Mark Knopfler's signature guitar playing, often referred to as fingerpicking, was a prominent feature of the band.

The album was a huge commercial success and brought Dire Straits international recognition. The song “Sultans of Swing” became particularly well-known and became a hit and was placed in the charts in many countries.
