Michael Hobson and Ying Tan founded Classic Records in January 1994, licensing some 30 titles from BMG's RCA Living Stereo classical LP catalog and later material from PolyGram's Verve Jazz archive.

The renowned reissue label, which specializes in audiophile LP reissues of classic albums, used its own custom-built, tube-based mastering equipment for all of its releases and masters its releases from original master tapes (or the best available sources).

The first releases were a box set of classic RCA Living stereo tracks and Verve jazz tracks (which were later sold individually). In later years some reissues were also recorded, both in the Prevue series and under the Classic imprint.

Classic Records was pressed on 180g standard vinyl until September 2001.

Then they switched to 180g “Quiex SV” (Super Vinyl) and all LPs were labeled with a sticker indicating the type of vinyl.

Like most modern vinyls, these pressings have a raised outer edge. In July 2002, the 200g flat profile vinyl “Quiex SV-P” was introduced.

In March 2008, they began producing the 200g flat profile “Hand Made” records on the semi-automatic presses at Bill Smith Custom Records, while continuing to press some titles on 180g conventional profile at RTI. This year also saw the introduction of “Clarity Vinyl” and “SV-P II” vinyl with an improved profile.

The Lp's from Classic Recods were produced in the highest recording and pressing quality and are now unique collector's items
