En 1985 , apareció el disco Once Upon a Time, quizá su trabajo más comercial, que llegó al número 1 en el Reino Unido y entre los 10 más vendidos en EE. UU. Producido por Jimmy Iovine y Bob Clearmountain. 4 éxitos mundiales como "Alive & Kicking", "Sanctify Yourself", "Ghostdancing" y "All The Things She Said" terminaron por consolidarles en lo más alto del panorama musical

'Once upon a time' (éste es el título del álbum publicado en octubre de 1985) es un disco impregnado del sonido típico de las producciones estadounidenses. Por otro lado, la elección de los dos productores lo confirma; Jimmy lovine y Bob Clearmountain son dos profesionales habituados a trabajar con vistas al mercado musical de «estrellas fugaces». Pero, en su búsqueda de la aceptación de un gran público, Simple Minds no perdieron nada. 'Once upon a time' es un disco espléndido que contiene, en ambas caras, óptimas canciones, como la arrebatadora 'Oh jungleland', la mística 'Sanctífy yourself', la marchosa 'Come a long way', la hipnótica 'Once upon a time' y naturalmente, 'Alive and Kicking' y All the Things She Said.

The song was featured in the 2013 best-selling video game, Grand Theft Auto V, on the fictional radio station Los Santos Rock Radio.
