Songs from the Big Chair es el disco más vendido de los Tears for Fears, el que les abrió las puertas del mercado americano, una auténtica sensación internacional con temas como Shout o Everybody Wants to Rule the World. Fueron un total de cinco singles los que se colaron en el top 5 en EEUU, dos de ellos nº1.

Songs from the Big Chair es el segundo álbum del grupo inglés Tears for Fears, publicado el 25 de febrero de 1985 bajo el sello de Mercury Records. El álbum gozó de un éxito a nivel mundial muy importante, y desde su salida ha vendido más de 10 millones de copias.

“Songs From The Big Chair”, de portada con fotografía en primer plano de Curt Smith y Roland Orzabal, es un gran álbum. De los mejores de los años 80 y de la historia de la música. Simplemente reparando en el hecho de que incluya en su interior a “Shout” y “Everybody wants to rule the world” sería suficiente para que reparen en su grandeza, pero el caso es que el resto de composiciones le van perfectamente a la zaga. Si no lo creen, perciban el hecho de que de las 8 canciones que lo componen, 5 fueron singles, llegando a posiciones muy altas en las listas.

En este mismo año, Roland Orzabal y Ian Stanley compusieron una pieza para la banda sonora original del film «Karate Kid II». Esta pieza se llamó Fish for life y se editó con el pseudónimo «Mancrab», aunque no gozó de mucho éxito en las listas.

Songs from the Big Chair is the second studio album by the British rock band Tears for Fears, released on 25 February 1985 by Phonogram Records. The album peaked at number two in the UK and number one in the US. It spawned a string of international hit singles, including "Mothers Talk", "Shout", "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", and "Head over Heels". It remains their best-selling album to date.

The album title was derived from the 1976 television film Sybil about a woman with multiple personality disorder who only feels safe when she is sitting in her analyst's "big chair".

Once the band had finished a lengthy touring and promotion schedule for the album, they took an extended hiatus from the music industry. In 1989, their third album, The Seeds of Love, marked their return. A companion video documentary entitled Scenes from the Big Chair was released in late 1985.
