The Who – Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970
3 x Vinyl, LP, Testpress
One-time test pressing from :
Live at the Isle of Wight Festival Live album by The Who, recorded 29th August 1970 at the Isle of Wight Festival and used as a test pressing for the 2011 tri-color release.
overview
The Who had been a year and three months into their Tommy tour when they played their second engagement at the Isle of Wight Festival.
As in 1969, they performed the bulk of their famous rock opera, which was by then quite familiar to festival audiences.
Huge floodlights bathed audiences of between 600,000 and 700,000 (according to the Guinness Book of World Records) and, as John Woolf, tour manager of The Who recalls, attracted "every moth and nocturnal flying animal on the island".
The Who started their set at 2:00 am.
By August 1970, Pete Townshend was already adding new songs to the setlist, including "Water", "I Don't Even Know Myself" and "Naked Eye". These songs, recorded at the time of the festival, were intended for an upcoming project called Lifehouse.
Although Lifehouse was eventually abandoned***, the sessions paved the way for the classic Who album Who's Next.
(***received on this TP)
The Who also played some live classics like "Substitute", "My Generation", "Magic Bus", "I Can't Explain" and the eternal covers of "Shakin' All Over" and "Summertime Blues".
The Who were and were considered the biggest band on earth at the time, and this performance also contributed to this.

★★★ "Testpress"
- is a music industry term that refers to a special vinyl record pressing that is created before actual mass production to check the quality and sound of the recording.
These test pressings are usually produced in very limited quantities and are an important phase in the vinyl record production process.
Quality Assurance: Test pressings are created to ensure that the record meets standards in terms of sound quality and technical aspects.
This includes checking for sound defects, scratches or other defects on the record.
Limited Edition: Test pressings are usually made in very small quantities, often fewer than ten copies.
They are not intended for sale and are for internal purposes only.
White or Blank Labels: Test pressings often have white or blank labels on the record itself, meaning they usually do not contain detailed information about the music or artists.
Test Listening: Artists, producers and sound engineers listen to test pressings to ensure the sound is as intended.
Any adjustments or changes can be made based on these test runs.
Collectible Value: Due to their rarity and collectible value, test pressings are highly sought after among vinyl lovers and collectors. They are often more expensive than regular vinyl editions of the same album.
Test pressings are an important part of the vinyl record production process and ensure that the final vinyl recordings are of the highest quality.
They also serve as sought-after collectibles and are of interest to music lovers and collectors.
