VISAGE - THE ANVIL -VINILO ORIGINAL PRIMERA EDICION 1982 POLYDOR MADE IN ENGLAND

Visage es un conjunto musical representativo dentro del estilo "New Romantic" originado a finales de la década de 1970 con el motivo inicial de proveer música para ser reproducida en el club nocturno londinense Blitz, perteneciente a Steve Strange y Rusty Egan.

Durante el año siguiente se lanzó al mercado su primera producción discográfica, que resultó ser todo un éxito de ventas y críticas gracias a una excelente composición y arreglos musicales pero sobre todo y mayormente al sencillo "Fade to Grey" que se transformó rápidamente en uno de los temas musicales representativos de la escena musical "New Romantic", para la cual este primer álbum se transformó en una especie de banda sonora.

Tras el lanzamiento de los éxitos "Mind of a Toy" y "Visage", Strange tuvo que esperar, ya que sus compañeros de conjunto se encontraban absorbidos por los compromisos de sus respectivas bandas (Ure y Currie con Ultravox, Fórmula y Adamson en Magazine, y McGeoch, recién separado de ésta, junto a Siouxsie and the Banshees), para grabar la segunda producción; no fue hasta finales de 1981 cuando todos los músicos, salvo McGeoch, regresaron al estudio y grabaron "The Anvil". Las seis semanas de grabación de este álbum fueron tensas y llenas de controversias entre Strange y Ure, ya que no se ponían de acuerdo en cuanto a la dirección musical que el conjunto tomaría, resultando "The Anvil" un excelente, aunque poco uniforme álbum. Este álbum fue lanzado en marzo de 1982 con mucha menos fanfarria que el primero. Midge Ure abandonó su colaboración con Visage debido a las diferencias con Strange y los crecientes compromisos con Ultravox, su banda principal y a la cual había accedido por medio de Billy Currie al poco tiempo de conocerlo. El conjunto, ya sin la colaboración de Ure y Adamson y con la incorporación del bajista Steve Barnacle se grabó el sencillo "Pleasure Boys", que salió al mercado en octubre de ese año.

The Anvil is the second studio album by the British rock/pop band Visage, released in March 1982 by Polydor Records. The album reached No. 6 in the UK and was certified "Silver" by the British Phonographic Industry in April 1982.

The album's first single was "The Damned Don't Cry" which was released three weeks ahead of the album and reached No. 11 in the UK Singles Chart.The second single released was "Night Train" in June 1982, reaching No. 12.The album's title track was remixed and released as a promo single as well as a German-language 12" version ("Der Amboss"), and "Whispers" was also released as a single in Japan (where both it and "Night Train" were used in TDK television commercials).

The album's front cover photograph was taken by Helmut Newton. The original vinyl release of the album came in an embossed/textured sleeve (considered as deluxe packaging for the time), and a limited number of copies (3,000) came with a free poster of Steve Strange posing with a number of models at the Hôtel George-V in Paris (the poster is an extended shot of the 12" single cover of "The Damned Don't Cry").
