IDIOMA INGLÉS
Schiaparelli, Elsa. Shocking Life. First American Edition, 1954. Book is in very good condition; dust jacket is in fair condition, but is attractive in Mylar (photos show in Mylar and out). Jacket shows fraying, tears, and chipping.
Elsa Schiaparelli was the only designer to seriously rival Chanel in the 1920s and 1930s, but, unlike Chanel, she left us with a fascinating memoir. In this book, Schiaparelli recalls her famous collaborations with artists such as Christian Bérard, Jean Cocteau, and Salvador Dali, which lead to such unconventional designs as a hat that resembled a shoe and a suit with pockets made to look like a chest of drawers. There are several sections of photographs and an appendix titled, “The Twelve Commandments for Women.” [Though God was able to make do with ten, the inimitable Schiap saw fit to one-up him by two.]
