Karma?s a Bitch
Corporate asshole and all-round prick Preston Odysseus Barrington wakes in Hell after a messy murder at the hands of several disgruntled Board Members. Initially terrified of his expected punishment, he is relieved when Satan, better known as Gary, recruits him to lead a massive project to reengineer Hell?s corporate structure. Armed with a lifetime of dirty tricks, sleazy politics, and tactical debauchery, Preston sets out with the help of two Arch Demons to transform Hades into an eternity far worse than its citizens could ever imagine.
While concocting his infernal strategy, Preston runs into some of history?s greatest villains and monsters - a remarkable mix of Humans and Demons - each brandishing advice or threats meant to alter his narcissistic course. But Preston could never have imagined his greatest foe arriving in the guise of a five-foot-tall young woman - the corporate intern he had mercilessly destroyed in the real world - now hell-bent on making his eternity miserable. Karma?s a bitch!
Can Preston deliver the ultimate holistic plan that pleases Satan before post-death life catches up with him? Or will squabbling Demons, scheming rivals, and God Almighty deliver him a crushing, infinitely painful defeat?
Oddy Barrington Razes Hell is a quirky romp with a side order of romantic comedy. Awakening in Hell, Preston Barrington discovers that his entire life has led him to a pitchfork in the road. In death, he is seen as a highly coveted corporate leader who is perfect for Satan?s plans to make the afterlife more miserable for its inhabitants. Welcomed with lavish gifts and privileges, Preston is wooed by Lucifer to join him at the top of Hell?s pyramid and rule for eternity. But it doesn?t take long for Preston to realize that the normal amount of control he is used to, which is ?absolute?, is not attached to his new role. In fact, it?s blatantly obvious that he is about to enter eternal subservience under Satan. Worse still, a former colleague and intern whose life Preston ruined by his callousness is hounding him. Stalking him and planning to make his eternity even more Hellish.
The book explores themes of narcissism, mental servitude and revenge. It looks at second chances and true, genuine self-awareness. It explores the religious concept of eternity, revealing it?s not all it?s cracked up to be.
