ESTA FORMA DE MASCARON SOLÍAN SER TÍPICOS EN BARCOS ITALIANOS DONDE ESTABAN PUESTO EN LA RODA O TAJAMAR .!

En un barco, se denomina tajamar al tablón grueso o pieza o compuesto de piezas que se adaptan fuertemente por su cara exterior o de proa y aún se asegura más con las curvas blandas.

En él se rematan las perchas y en su extremo superior se coloca el figurón.

Dichos mascarones se usaban en las proas de los barcos.

Las medidas solían ser de 45 cm. hasta los 2 metros , los tallados en madera.

El mascarón de proa encarnaba el espíritu de un barco y originalmente se creía que aplacaba a los dioses del mar y garantizaba un viaje seguro.

Casi todas las proas tenían una figura tallada mirando las olas, y la variedad era inmensa.

Hoy son un recordatorio evocador y decorativo de los días pasados de los veleros.

Este en concreto sus medidas y peso son aproximadamente:

THIS FORM OF FIGUREHEAD USED TO BE TYPICAL ON ITALIAN SHIPS WHERE THEY WERE PLACED IN THE CUTWATER:

On a ship, a cutwater is a thick plank, piece, or composite of pieces that fit tightly together on its outer or bow face and are further secured by soft curves.

The spars are finished on it, and the figurehead is placed at its upper end.

ITS EXACT AGE, ORIGIN, AND TYPE OF WOOD ARE UNKNOWN!

BUT YOU CAN SEE AND APPRECIATE THAT IT'S MANY YEARS OLD!

They were also later used in taverns as a decorative element, and this one could surely have been one of them.

Since some were made exclusively to decorate the walls or entrances of these taverns!

Some parts are missing wood and some are weakened.

These figureheads were used on the prows of ships.

The measurements were usually 45 cm to 2 meters, for those carved in wood.

The figurehead embodied the spirit of a ship and was originally believed to appease the sea gods and ensure a safe voyage.

Almost all prows had a carved figure gazing out at the waves, and the variety was immense.

Today, they are an evocative and decorative reminder of the bygone days of sailing ships.
