La deidad generalmente se representa como una hipótamo hembra bipeda con atributos felinos, pechos humanos femeninos caídos, extremidades y piernas de un león y la cola de un cocodrilo del Nilo.

La diosa egipcia Tueris, conocida también como Tauret, Taweret, Taurt, Taueret, Thoeris.

Su nombre significa “La Grande”, vinculada con el nacimiento, es por eso que en época predinástica fue protectora de las embarazadas. Su apariencia es la de un hipopótamo hembra, los sacerdotes encargados de venerar a Tueris eran médicos especialistas en los partos de las mujeres egipcias.

Es hija del dios sol Ra y en muchas ocasiones recibió el nombre del «Ojo de Ra». Por otro lado, se decía que era madre de Isis y Osiris, tal vez su estatus se debió a que favorecía la abundancia de la leche materna. Tueris es una divinidad doméstica, acompañada a veces del dios Bes en la cámara del nacimiento, un dios enano barbudo que protege a las embarazadas egipcias.

Estuvo presente en el nacimiento de la reina-faraón Hatshepsut.
