Los ushabtis son pequeñas estatuillas de aspecto momiforme que representan al servidor de un difunto y que realizan una serie de trabajos de tipo agrícola en el Más Allá. El origen de estas figuras no está nada claro y se han propuesto diversas cronologías para su primera aparición. Estas fechas se centran en dos periodos concretos de la historia del Antiguo Egipto, el Primer Periodo Intermedio (2190-2040 a.C., aprox.) y el Reino Medio (2040-1782 a.C., aprox.). Sin embargo su significado se remonta a épocas más antiguas y tiene que ver con el concepto egipcio de considerar la vida de ultratumba como una continuidad de esta vida presente. Ya que en esta vida era necesario trabajar los campos y realizar diferentes tareas asociadas, en el Más Allá debería ocurrir lo mismo.

Ushabtis are small, mummiform figurines representing the servant of a deceased person, who performs a series of agricultural tasks in the Afterlife. The origin of these figures is unclear, and various chronologies have been proposed for their first appearance. These dates are centered on two specific periods in the history of Ancient Egypt: the First Intermediate Period (approximately 2190-2040 BCE) and the Middle Kingdom (approximately 2040-1782 BCE). However, their significance dates back to earlier times and is related to the Egyptian concept of the afterlife as a continuation of this present life. Since in this life it was necessary to work the fields and perform different associated tasks, in the Hereafter the same should happen.
