Espléndido bastón francés en madera de palosanto y hueso. La empuñadura y el final de su cuerpo son de palosanto, mientras que el resto del cuerpo principal se compone de siete piezas de hueso con pequeñas uniones también en madera, creando así un elegante contraste entre ambos materiales y un efecto decorativo.

Ya desde la antigüedad, este tipo de piezas tuvieron una gran importancia. Los babilonios no salían de su casa sin llevar un bastón de mano bien trabajado con un ornamento simbólico que distinguía la jerarquía de la persona que lo portaba. En Egipto se celebraba la fiesta de los bastones. Costumbres que se repiten también en Europa, pues los monarcas franceses llevaban el cetro en una mano y el bastón en otra.
