Exquisito mueble auxiliar francés único en su tipo. Presenta materiales de excelente calidad, marquetería realizada con maderas preciosas y dos tipos diferentes de mármol. Pese a que aparenta una estructura sencilla, esta cómoda guarda dos secretos. Procedente de un importante taller parisino de mediados del siglo XIX.

Esta pequeña cómoda se realiza en estilo Luis XV, época Napoleón III. Presenta un impresionante sobre de mármol Griotte con incrustaciones perladas; es un mármol de origen belga, que se caracteriza por su intenso color rojo. Descansa sobre un cuerpo de cuatro caras mixtilíneas. En el frente, dos registros; uno muy fino a modo de cinturón y otro de gran capacidad. El primero, es un cajón corredizo de palisandro perfilado en bronce, con interior de madera de arce, acompañado de una original cerradura de bronce dorado. Este perfilado de bronce se extiende por todo el mueble. El segundo, que corresponde con la falda del mueble, tiene un movimiento cóncavo; es un cajón de puerta abatible cuyo interior está revestido de mármol blanco. Este cajón se abre girando un mango de bronce dorado.

La cómoda se levanta sobre patas galveadas, las cuatro con sablots. Todas estas guarniciones son de bronce dorado al mercurio y después cincelado. Además, en la marquetería, presente en toda su estructura, se utilizan diferentes chapas de madera frutales que aportan una riquísima variedad tonal, donde contrastan las maderas claras y oscuras. El patrón geométrico se plantea en forma de treillage.

El Estilo Luis XV es un estilo artístico, especialmente presente en las artes decorativas, que se desarrolló durante el reinado de Luis XV (1715-1774). Inicialmente la denominación "Estilo Luis XV" se refería a un tipo característico de sillas, pero enseguida se extendió a todas las artes de la época. Este estilo fue creación de los ebanistas como resultado de un avance técnico mayor en la fabricación de muebles de madera. Se identifica con el estilo arquitectónico denominado Rococó. Al igual que el Rococó, cuenta con una profusa decoración y detallismo, en contraste con el posterior "Estilo Luis XVI", de tendencia más sencilla.

Estilo y época Napoleón III o Segundo Imperio

El estilo Napoleón III o Segundo Imperio recibe su nombre debido a que nació en Francia en aquel momento. Estrictamente, el Segundo Imperio fue proclamado en 1852 y terminó en 1870, dirigido por Luis Napoleón Bonaparte como emperador de los franceses, aunque en el sentido artístico se extiende unos años más (hasta 1880). Dicho estilo tuvo una gran acogida entre la burguesía francesa. El propio emperador estuvo involucrado en el desarrollo artístico del momento, aunque más ligado con la arquitectura. Sin embargo, es a la emperatriz Eugenia a quien se le debe la evolución de las artes decorativas.

Aunque se inspira en los estilos del pasado, empezando por la Antigüedad Clásica, el Renacimiento, incluso en el Luis XVI, muy querido por Eugenia, la característica más representativa del estilo es la suntuosidad y ostentación, aspirando siempre a mostrar la riqueza y opulencia.

No es un estilo diseñado específicamente para el Segundo Imperio, sino una recuperación de los diferentes grandes estilos franceses de los siglos anteriores, una especie de recopilación de las tendencias decorativas francesas. Se hace especial referencia al Luis XIV, Luis XV, Barroco y Rococó, y poco a poco el Luis XVI, de base eclecticista. En definitiva, los estilos decorativos que habían posicionado a Francia a la cabeza del interiorismo y diseño de mobiliario en Europa, tanto por calidad como por originalidad y belleza.

Although it appears to have a simple structure, this chest of drawers keeps two secrets. From an important Parisian workshop from the mid-19th century.

This small chest of drawers is made in Louis XV style, Napoleon III period. Features a stunning Griotte marble top with pearl inlays; It is a marble of Belgian origin, which is characterized by its intense red color. It rests on a body with four mixtilinear faces. The first is a sliding rosewood drawer outlined in bronze, with a maple wood interior, accompanied by an original gilded bronze lock.
