Objeto litúrgico “Catavinos”, Plateado, circa 1900 - España

Original y curioso objeto litúrgico, realizado en silver plate hacia 1900. Podría tratarse de un catador de vinos o una suerte de concha bautismal. Presenta una estructura sencilla, una semiesfera colgada en un curioso gancho. Este cierre presenta forma de pata de caballo, labrada con gran detallismo, incluso es visible la herradura. En la parte principal, el cuenco semiesférico, aparece la inscripción “presbitero” así como unas grandes iniciales grabadas.

Un presbítero, en el catolicismo, es un eclesiástico al que se le ha conferido, por el sacramento del orden, el segundo grado de la jerarquía eclesiástica: sacerdote, clérigo, cura, capellán, arcipreste. Este objeto litúrgico, que sirve para la celebración de la Eucaristía, podría ser un catador de vinos o catavinos. Se trata de objetos con gran tradición, utilizados ya desde el siglo XVI. Por lo general, estaban fabricados en estaño, plata, alpaca, peltre u otros metales que no transmiten olores ni sabores y, con ello, se garantiza la inalterabilidad de las características del vino. En algunos casos, presentaban inscripciones alegóricas a la honradez del catador o de la virtud y calidad de los vinos que se probaban. Además, en este caso, cuenta con cadena y gancho para facilitar su transporte.

Original and curious liturgical object, made in silver plate around 1900. It could be a wine taster or a kind of baptismal shell. It has a simple structure, a semisphere hanging on a curious hook. This clasp is shaped like a horse's leg, carved with great detail, even the horseshoe is visible. On the main part, the semispherical bowl, the inscription “presbyter” appears as well as some large engraved initials.
