Exquisito sillón corbeille realizado hacia 1880 en Francia, estilo y época Napoleón III. Realizado en madera tallada y dorada con oro fino. Presenta asiento y respaldo de doble rejilla de mimbre, en buen estado. Faldón de perfil ondulado con roleos y rocallas, patas galveadas y cenefa perimetral en el asiento en forma de cordón. Respaldo de movimiento sinuoso siguiendo el modelo corbeille y rematando en un copete floral de extraordinaria calidad. Una pieza de gran carga estética, adecuada en cualquier espacio y ambiente, incluso como contrapunto en una decoración contemporánea.

El sofá Corbeille es un tipo de sofá con una base ovalada, cuyo respaldo se curva suavemente hacia adelante y hacia abajo para formar los brazos. El modelo surgió en Francia durante el siglo XVIII y sigue siendo un icono de elegancia.

Estilo y época Napoleón III o Segundo Imperio

El estilo Napoleón III o Segundo Imperio recibe su nombre debido a que nació en Francia en aquel momento. Estrictamente, el Segundo Imperio fue proclamado en 1852 y terminó en 1870, dirigido por Luis Napoleón Bonaparte como emperador de los franceses, aunque en el sentido artístico se extiende unos años más (hasta 1880), y se vuelve a recurrir a él en épocas posteriores. Dicho estilo tuvo una gran acogida entre la burguesía francesa. El propio emperador estuvo involucrado en el desarrollo artístico del momento, aunque más ligado con la arquitectura. Sin embargo, es a la emperatriz Eugenia a quien se le debe la evolución de las artes decorativas.

Aunque se inspira en los estilos del pasado, empezando por la Antigüedad Clásica, el Renacimiento, incluso en el Luis XVI, muy querido por Eugenia, la característica más representativa del estilo es la suntuosidad y ostentación, aspirando siempre a mostrar la riqueza y opulencia. Son piezas con una gran ornamentación.

No es un estilo diseñado específicamente para el Segundo Imperio, sino una recuperación de los diferentes grandes estilos franceses de los siglos anteriores, una especie de recopilación de las tendencias decorativas francesas. Se hace especial referencia al Luis XIV, Luis XV, Barroco y Rococó, y poco a poco el Luis XVI, de base eclecticista. En definitiva, los estilos decorativos que habían posicionado a Francia a la cabeza del interiorismo y diseño de mobiliario en Europa, tanto por calidad como por originalidad y belleza.

Exquisite Corbeille armchair made around 1880 in France, Napoleon III style and period. Made of carved wood gilded with fine gold. It features a double-woven wicker seat and backrest, in good condition. The skirt has a wavy profile with scrolls and seed beads, galveo legs, and a cord-like border around the seat. The backrest features a sinuous movement following the Corbeille model and is finished with a floral crest of extraordinary quality. A piece of great aesthetic value, suitable for any space and setting, even as a counterpoint in contemporary decor.

Napoleon III or Second Empire Style and Period

The Napoleon III or Second Empire style is named after its origins in France at that time. Strictly speaking, the Second Empire was proclaimed in 1852 and ended in 1870, led by Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte as Emperor of the French, although in the artistic sense it lasted a few years longer (until 1880) and was returned to in later periods.
