El estilo Memphis, originario de Italia, es un clásico atemporal. Vivió su momento de apogeo en los años 80, con sus patrones y mezclas de estampados y colores chillones y vibrantes. El máximo exponente de esta tendencia fue el diseñador y arquitecto Ettore Sottsass. La clave del estilo Memphis es romper con el clasicismo, la armonía y todo tipo de reglas estéticas tradicionales. Propone una combinación de colores en la que todo vale. De hecho, cuanto más dispar y asimétrico sea el resultado, mejor. Creatividad ante todo. El negro está presente, pero siempre relegado a marcar las líneas y contornos de las figuras que se rellenan de color. Se inspira en las formas geométricas propias del Art Déco, el Pop Art y el Kitch. Durante los últimos años ha vuelto a resurgir esta tendencia.

Para muchos, más que un simple estilo decorativo, es una filosofía de vida. La frase “puede que una mesa necesite cuatro patas para funcionar, pero nadie dice que las cuatro tengan que ser iguales” define bien dicha filosofía.

Ceramiche Rometti nació en 1927 en Umbertide, de una idea del experto ceramista Settimio Rometti, ayudado por sus nietos. El clima de la vanguardia, a principios del siglo XX, fue el momento idóneo para llevar a la realidad su sueño, una producción industrial predominada por el arte y la artesanía.

Los artistas se liberaron de las restricciones y limitaciones intelectuales para poder experimentar con la forma, dedicándose a crear figuras esculpidas, jarrones, lámparas… Todo ello piezas de edición limitada, cuya esencia era la singularidad. Para su creación, se valían de una arcilla particular obtenida de canteras bañadas por el Tíber.

La marca se caracteriza por un estilo ecléctico y atemporal de piezas artísticas genuinas y sus decoraciones son la razón por la cual sus piezas resultan tan codiciadas por los coleccionistas de todo el mundo.

A lo largo de las décadas, Rometti se ha mantenido como un punto de referencia importante, gracias a las distintas colaboraciones con grandes diseñadores y marcas, como Cartier o Roche Bobois, y numerosos premios obtenidos, incluida la medalla de oro de la Exposición Internacional de Niza, la Trienal de Milán…

About the Memphis style
